SENIOR PROGRAMS
Meals on Wheels
North Township and Meals on Wheels of Northwest Indiana are teaming up for nutrition.
Qualifying seniors – as well as those with temporary or permanent disabilities – get hot meals delivered to their door.
Meals on Wheels now has a Select Menu Program, which allows clients to choose entree selections planned by a registered dietitian.
Sandy Noe, executive director of the local Meals on Wheels, said there is no underestimating the value of daily interaction along with nutrition.
The township goes beyond simply providing food vouchers. Homebound seniors get regular interaction and well-being checks, which is value-added to the program.
In addition to delivering food, Meals on Wheels volunteers bring pet food for those who have dogs and cats. Volunteers also make sure lights are working, that the heat or air conditioning is on and that everything seems okay.
I"It's all part of the service, Noe said. "They don’t leave until they know everyone on their route is safe and well.”
