The North Township Trustee’s Office prides itself on its mission statement:

“To improve the quality of life by enhancing the health, safety, well-being and educational needs of North Township residents, through professional service that is effective, efficient and accountable.”

ABOUT US

Helping families. Strengthening communities.

We are a government agency serving the communities of East Chicago, Hammond, Highland, Munster, Griffith, and Whiting. North Township, located in Lake County, Indiana, is the second largest of the 1,008 townships in the state.

Historically, the primary function of the township offices is to provide assistance to those in need. "We are proud of what we are able to accomplish with limited funding that comes to the township through property taxes," Trustee Adrian Santos says. "We have skilled staff that help walk those who need assistance through the application process to guarantee they are getting the assistance they need -- when they need it."

The township owns and maintains Hess Cemetery located in the Hessville neighborhood of Hammond and the historic Oak Hill Cemetery in Central Hammond. The Trustee's office provides free, on-demand transit service, to residents living within the boundaries of the Township through its Dial-a-Ride program.

North Township operates Wicker Memorial Parkon park donated to the township nearly a century ago. Dedicated by President Calvin Coolidge on June 14, 1927 to the doughboys of World War 1, Wicker Memorial Park is one of the most utilized parks in the region.

With an 18-hole golf course, 3 miles of trails, volleyball, a dog park, a brand new all-abilities playground, picnic areas, banquet facilities and the recently added Splash Pad, Wicker Memorial Park has something to offer for every one!
